Pelican Bank Spotlight

BoatCharters-Home-PelicanBank

While most people love sailing the Fraser Coast region for it’s shining star, Fraser Island, there’s another little known sand bank that is a jewel to Fraser Coast locals and rivals the scenes of Whitehaven Beach. If you haven’t spent a day at Pelican Bank, you had better put it on that bucket list.

For some summertime fun in December and given the weather was just perfect, we jumped on board the sailing vessel Indigo with a group of friends with the sole purpose of spending the day anchored off the spectacular Pelican Bank.

After stocking the boat for our day trip essentials (food, drinks, swimmers and lots of sunscreen), we departed the Great Sandy Straits Marina in Hervey Bay. After a leisurely motor past Round Island and Big Woody Island, we arrived just off Pelican Bank within an hour. The distance that this spot is from the harbour is of course perfect for a day trip, because we still had plenty of time to hang around for some fun in the sun before making it back early in the afternoon.

Our day consisted of a swim from the yacht, Indigo, to the shores of Pelican Bank, cooling off with a much needed swim in the crystal clear waters and a walk around the bank of some of the whitest sand you’ll ever see.

This was the perfect way to spend some time together with friends and soak in our backyard without having to travel too far at all. If you’re not into swimming? Some of us just laid back on the front deck nets of the yacht, enjoyed a fruit platter and took in the epic views.

If you’re planning a bareboating trip, Pelican Bank is a must to add to your list and if you’d rather someone else do all the work? Chat to us about the private skippered charters we offer.
